Tennis: Striving for a Medal and for Experience

NICOSIA, 13 May 2009 - Dimitris Leondis will be taking part in the Games of the Small States of Europe for the third time this year. He is the man with the most appearances for the Cyprus Tennis National Team, having already won a GSSE bronze medal, in the Men's Doubles of the 2001 Games in San Marino, together with Marcos Baghdatis.

Leondis returns to the National Team this year, following two years of absence, with the ambition to help Cyprus win another medal in Tennis. “Even though I have been present in two previous GSSE, the CYRPUS 2009 Games are special because I'll have the chance to compete in front of the home crowd,” said Leondis. “Our goal is to win a medal for Cyprus, either in the Singles or the Doubles.”

The possible absence of Marcos Baghdatis makes things difficult for Cyprus, but the remaining players will give their best, to win a medal.

Dimitris Leondis, was born on 25 November 1978 in Nicosia and has been a member of the National Team since 1993. He was ranked number one in Cyprus for many years. He has represented Cyprus in Davis Cup matches and took part in the College Championships in the United States. He now competes in the Cyprus Championships with great success.
