The Cyprus National Sailing Team enters the XIII Games
of the Small States of Europe with high hopes of
distinction. Under the supervision of their coaches, the
men and women sailors of Cyprus are training intensively
for the Games having set a goal of collecting as many
medals as possible, as they'll be competing in their own
only Sailing medal (a bronze) for Cyprus at the last
Games, two years ago in Monaco, came from Natasha
Christodoulou--but several other sailors achieved good
pre-Games preparation is done under the supervision of
National coaches Demetres Demetriou and Akis Koutsavakes.
Meanwhile, star sailor Pavlos Kontides is expected to
arrive in Cyprus on 2 June, the first day of races off
the Limassol Sailing Centre, on the south coast of the
island. The national champion is a strong favourite in
the Laser Class and the Sailing community of Cyprus has
high hopes that he will clinch the gold medal.

medals--amongst them, Roes Neophytou, Eleni Kyriakidou,
Maria Sarri, Joseph Herodotou, Grigoris Christodoulou
and Mary Solomonidou.

each Class and gender: Optimist and Laser / Laser
1985, when Cyprus took part for the first time in the
Sailing competition of the San Marino Games, until the
latest performance in Monaco 2007, Cyprus has amassed 10
medals--two gold, three silver and five bronze. The only
two golds came from Nicholas Epiphaniou in the 470 Class
in 1989 and from Demetres Lappas in 1997.
