Refurbished, High-Tech Pool Ready For Games

LIMASSOL, 20 May 2009 - Most people involved in the XIII Games of the Small States of Europe expect Swimming to be the sport that will principally determine the winning nation in the final medals ranking. This was the case in Monaco two years ago. However in this year's competition, to be hosted by Cyprus, Swimming will also be the leading event in terms of high technology and organisation.

This is clearly shown by the complete refurbishment of the Limassol Swimming Pool, a facility that has undergone a major makeover. The locker rooms, the secretariat, the pool itself, the warm-up room and the general auxiliary areas are now all gleaming new to meet with modern requirements and regulations. An ultra modern, state-of-the-art electronic scoreboard complete with colour digit display has also been installed and promises to brighten up the Aquatics venue.

Preparations continue at full speed and the organisers are optimistic that they will be more than ready to meet all of the Olympic Committee's requirements.

On the competition front, the Cyprus team, comprising 15 athletes, is expected to be announced over the next few days. A team ready to take the 'plunge' and raise the profile of Swimming, as well as Cyprus' stature as a competitor. This has been achieved in the past, of course, but this time around the team is expected to surpass their highest expectations.
