"Without The Sponsors There Would Be No GSSE"

NICOSIA, 21 May 2009 - The Cyprus Olympic Committee and the Organising Committee of the XIII Games of the Small States of Europe once again gave their warmest thanks to the sponsors of the Games. At a special ceremony which took place on Wednesday 20 May at Olympic House, here, the Olympic Movement of Cyprus thanked all the companies that will be supporting the events to host the 2009 GSSE. "Without the sponsors, we couldn't have organised the GSSE," said the President of the Organising Committee, Ouranios Ioannides, commenting on the sponsorship schedule and its importance.

The Top Institutional Sponsor of the XIII GSSE is OPAP, the football pools company. Other Institutional Sponsors are the Bank of Cyprus, Cyprus Telecommunications Authority, Strovolos Co-op and Peak Sportswear. The Gold Sponsors of the event are Coca-Cola, Duracell and Hellas Sat, the Silver Sponsors are Gillette Blue 3 and the Bronze Sponsors are the Electric Authority of Cyprus, Cyprus Airways, Top Kinisis and the Cyprus Tourism Organisation. Official supporters are companies Charalambos Pilakoutas Group, ETKO Winery and Fa.

The COC President also announced that priority will be given to the existing sponsors when 3D animation graphics are used before and after every video replay (in cooperation with the company Galanis Sports Data) during the transmission of the Games. Mr Ioannides also gave details of the 3D animation graphic interludes, adding that the interest from the companies was big and that the relative sponsorship would be announced soon.

"It is widely known and acknowledged that the main aim of a sponsor is to undertake work which they will feel is a public service and which interests the public and, secondly, which aims to recognise, project and advertise its sponsorship. The public must know that the sponsors are acting in the public interest and that their sponsorship is a way of recognising their work towards society," said Mr Ioannides, adding that the best possible efforts will be made by CYPRUS 2009 to give the best possible publicity to the sponsors.
