Ayios Tychonas Ready To Greet GSSE

LIMASSOL, 25 May 2009 - The Community of Ayios Tychonas is providing its full support to the efforts being taken to organise the XIII Games of the Small States of Europe. According to the Chairman of the Community Council, Pambos Ioannou, Ayios Tychonas is ready to greet the foreign guests as well as the Cypriot visitors at the Limassol Sailing Centre, which will host the Sailing and Beach Volleyball events of the Games.

Ayios Tychonas is a suburb of Limassol to the east of downtown, stretching from the foothills of the inland mountains to the coast. Within the Community's boundaries lie the facilities of the Sailing Centre. The village proper is an agricultural community, but Ayios Tychonas also includes stretches of wonderful beach and an impressive tourism infrastructure, plus a plethora of archaeological sites that promote the long history of Cyprus.

Efforts are already up and running by the Community Council for the GSSE events whilst, already, various side events are in the pipeline.

During an inspection of the upgrade works at the Beach Volleyball and Sailing facilities, Mr. Ioannou was accompanied by the President of the Cyprus Volleyball Federation, Damianos Hadjidamianou and the coach of the Cyprus Beach Volleyball National Team, Manolis Roumeliotis.

"We feel great pride and joy that Ayios Tychonas will host two sport events, Beach Volleyball and Sailing, of the GSSE. We will undertake every effort to make these Games a success. We will place flag decorations around the area, welcome the visitors and will give every bit of collaboration necessary," said Mr Ioannou.

"The whole area will be upgraded in the best possible way whilst our hotels are excellent and can offer the necessary comfort to our visitors. We are calling on the residents of the area and especially the young people to embrace this effort because sport brings health. We can only gain from leading our youth towards sports."

Mr Ioannou also conveyed his best wishes to the Cyprus teams saying, "good luck and I hope we win plenty of gold medals."
