NICOSIA, 31 May 2009 –
Maltese youngster William Chetcuti, who
was born in 1985, is tipped to be the big favourite to
win the gold medal in the Double Trap event at the XIII
Games of the Small States of Europe.
The shooter from Malta has had much
success in the last eight years in both European and
World competitions at junior and senior level.
He took part in the last two Olympics
Games where he recorded an impressive finish of eighth
in Athens. His trophy cabinet also boasts a silver medal
which he won at the Belgrade World Cup in 2005
(188/200), as well as a gold and two silver medals at
European Junior Championships.
At the 2004 European Championships in Nicosia, he won
the gold medal in the juniors event, breaking the junior
world record score in the process (146/150 and 192/200),
whilst also coming first in the seniors event.
This year, the Maltese shooter took part
in the Cairo Shooting World Cup, where he secured eighth
place with a score of 134/150.
