Breaks Into Qualifying Standard For Worlds

Eleni Artymata of Cyprus raced to first
place on Tuesday in the 100m track event securing a new
Games record in the process with her finishing time of
The 23-year-old from the coastal town of Paralimni beat
her own personal best as well as securing a B Qualifying
Standard time ahead of the upcoming World Championships
in Berlin (15-23 August). The previous record time at
the Games of the Small States of Europe had been held by
fellow Cypriot Marila Grigoriou with her time of 11.48.
“The only negative thing was the fact that the wind was
blowing in my direction”, stated Artymata who was later
informed that the wind count at the National Athletics
Centre, which is situated at the GSP Sports Complex, was
-0.7. Artymata now looks towards collecting two more
gold medals in the 200m and 4x100m events.
She will then turn her attention towards the Cypriot
Championship between 12-13 June where she will only take
part in the 200m event, the European Cup and then the
Mediterranean Games in Pescara.
